Queen Mary 2
30 September 2007.
The RMS Queen Mary 2 is the longest, widest and tallest passenger ship ever built. Her home port is Southampton, England, and we had the privilege of visiting her while she was docked there.
This gigantic, elegant ship was launched in 2004 by Cunard Lines, a company with nearly 170 years of history. She is a ship that combines tradition with 21st-century luxury.

As we enter the Queen Mary 2 (or QM2 for short), we are taken on a tour through spectacular rooms with jaw-dropping interiors. This ship is large enough for around 2,600 passengers, so there are a huge number of facilities. We visit the ballroom, spa, library, lobby, designer shops, stylish restaurants - even a planetarium. By the end of the tour I have lost count of how many times I said "Wow!" or "This is amazing!"
But the most enjoyable part for me was being on the decks - sitting by the swimming pools and looking at the city and the port below, or walking past the impressive red funnels and the 'Queen Mary 2' sign that can be seen from far away. It was a truly memorable experience.
The QM2 is one of three ships operated by Cunard Lines. The other two are the brand new ship Queen Victoria, which will be launched in December 2007, and the older Queen Elizabeth 2 (launched 1969), which will stop cruising in 2008 and become a floating hotel in Dubai. The three queens will be in New York together in January 2008. Look out for them in the news!
Many thanks to Oleg, Abby, and the staff on board the QM2.
